Security
Online safety and ID Theft prevention is a shared effort between LGFCU and the members. Here's how we keep you safe and a few things you can do to protect yourself.
How we protect your accounts
Encryption
- LGFCU uses high-grade 256-bit encryption (128-bit encryption required) provided by industry experts VeriSign, Inc.
- All pages of the site and within MemberConnect are "https:" instead of "http:".
- A closed padlock on your browser window is a sign of a secure and authentic connection.
Account access using MemberConnect
- Secure sign on from the top of any page or from the separate sign-on page
- User identity verified with Intelligent Defense Check (ID Check)
- Unique, alphanumeric user ID and password selected by member
- Sign-on field information encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology
- Automated session time-out feature
ID Check
ID Check verifies user identity during sign on and includes the following components:
Access Signature
- Includes physical location, Internet connection, operating system, etc.
- Compares stored and current signatures during sign on.
Security Questions
- Member-provided answers to a brief series of questions
- May be completed online or at a local branch
- Known information to the member-difficult for an unauthorized user to guess
Note: ID Check questions may sometimes be used by Call Center and branch staff before processing transactions or to complete select online transactions when you contact either.
Fraud monitoring and detection
To monitor and detect fraud, the Credit Union uses leading forensic technology that identifies threats before they become issues including:
- Branding protection to guard against site spoofing
- Multi-factor identification verification (ID Check)
- Monitoring threats against our servers
- Daily web log review
- Independent, external audits of security measures
- Implementing solutions that constantly evolve to combat the latest trends
Protect your information
It is necessary for you to take a proactive role in protecting yourself. Consider these recommendations:
- Never share your access information.
- Only send personal or account information via MemberConnect secure e-mail.
- Use an updated browser with 128-bit encryption.
- Install a firewall and antivirus software on your computer.
- Always sign-off MemberConnect sessions and then close the browser, especially when using public computers.
- Never download unknown software.
- Do not use the Auto Complete feature which saves your access number and password and automatically enters this information when visiting the sign-on page.
- Commit your password to memory.
- Notify your local branch or the Call Center if you plan to travel.
